Residencies of three to five days are available in the spring and fall months, typically in April or  May and September or October. Artists stay in the Olson family home, located in Ely, Minnesota, and have access to a bedroom, bathroom, furnished kitchen, and comfortable common spaces within the house. Wi-Fi and bedding are provided by the Foundation; artists are responsible for all meals.

Artists have day-time access to Sigurd Olson’s writing shack, which is adjacent to the Olson family home, and to the cabin and property at Listening Point on Burnside Lake.

Common spaces at these facilities are shared by staff of the Foundation and there may be scheduled tours during the period of the residency. All efforts are made to ensure that intrusions are minimal and scheduled. The Listening Point Foundation Director will notify the Artist in Residence of any scheduled tours prior to the start of their stay. 

There is no cost for the residency, but artists are asked to share a completed project or product with the Listening Point Foundation, which may occur after the residency. The Foundation will request copyright permission to showcase the work in its newsletter, on its website and social media, or, when appropriate, to reproduce images as greeting cards or other items to support the Foundation.

Artists interested in participating in the residency program should write a short statement declaring their plans for the residency and how the Listening Point Foundation facilities will support completion of the project.
